Institutional Governance
Accountability. Integrity. Oversight.
Sound governance is not a bureaucratic formality — it is the structural expression of an institution's commitment to the people it serves. I AM University builds its governance with that conviction as its starting point.
Governance Philosophy
Why Governance Matters to Us
Institutional governance refers to the systems, structures, policies, and practices through which an institution makes decisions, maintains accountability, and exercises its authority responsibly. For a university, effective governance is not optional — it is the bedrock of institutional trustworthiness.
I AM University is committed to building governance infrastructure that is not merely adequate for our current size and phase of development, but that is intentionally designed to support the level of institutional complexity and regulatory scrutiny that comes with our long-term vision, including future institutional accreditation.
Because we are transparent about our developmental phase, we are also transparent about where our governance infrastructure is fully operational, where it is under active development, and where it is yet to be established. This transparency is itself a form of governance integrity.
Separation of Powers
Governance authority at I AM University is distributed across multiple bodies and roles — no single individual holds unchecked institutional authority. Academic governance, executive leadership, and board oversight are distinct and mutually accountable functions.
Policy-Governed Operations
All significant institutional activities — from admissions to financial management — are governed by written policies that are reviewed, maintained, and applied consistently. We do not operate by informal custom or undocumented practice.
Conflict of Interest Management
All governance participants — trustees, officers, and advisory council members — are required to disclose actual and potential conflicts of interest and to recuse themselves from relevant decisions. We take financial and relational conflicts seriously.
Documented Decision-Making
Key institutional decisions are documented through formal meeting minutes, written approvals, and policy records. This documentation trail is essential to both accountability and accreditation readiness.

Ultimate Accountability
Every governance structure we build is designed to protect students, uphold integrity, and steward the long-term vision of I AM University.
Board of Trustees
Ultimate Institutional Oversight
The Board of Trustees holds the highest level of institutional authority at I AM University. It is responsible for mission oversight, financial stewardship, executive accountability, and long-term institutional direction.
Role and Responsibilities
The Board of Trustees of I AM University is the ultimate governing authority of the institution. The Board holds fiduciary responsibility for the long-term financial health of the institution, provides oversight of executive leadership, and is the final authority on matters of institutional policy, mission integrity, and strategic direction.
The Board operates according to a formal governance policy that establishes its composition, election procedures, terms of service, meeting requirements, quorum standards, voting procedures, and conflict of interest policies. All Board activities are documented through formal meeting minutes maintained in the institution's permanent governance records.
The Board of Trustees is ultimately accountable to the mission of the institution — not to any individual officer, founder, or donor. Its governance authority exists to protect students, uphold institutional integrity, and steward the long-term vision of I AM University.

Academic Governance
The Academic Affairs Council
Shared governance in academic affairs ensures that instructional quality, faculty standards, and curriculum integrity are guided by expert review — not solely by administrative authority.
Composition
The Academic Affairs Council includes subject-matter experts, faculty contributors, and external academic advisors who provide peer-level review of I AM University's academic programs. Members are selected based on their academic credentials, professional experience, and commitment to the institution's mission.
Function
The Council reviews proposed curriculum, evaluates learning outcomes, advises on faculty development standards, and provides guidance on academic policies. It serves as the primary body for academic quality assurance and offers recommendations to institutional leadership on matters of academic integrity and program development.
Authority
The Academic Affairs Council operates in an advisory capacity, with formal recommendations submitted to institutional leadership for consideration. This model reflects our current developmental phase; as the institution matures, the Council will evolve into a faculty governance structure with formal shared-governance authority consistent with accreditation requirements.
Academic Governance Principles
Shared Governance in Academic Life
The principle of shared governance — the idea that faculty have a meaningful voice in academic decision-making — is foundational to higher education integrity. I AM University is building its academic governance structures with this principle at the center, preparing for the level of faculty governance expected of accredited institutions.
Financial Oversight
Stewardship of Institutional Resources
Sound financial governance protects students, supports the institution's long-term viability, and is a prerequisite for future accreditation. We take our financial stewardship responsibilities seriously.
Financial Governance Practices
I AM University maintains separate institutional accounts for all student payments and institutional funds. Tuition and program fees collected from students are held in dedicated accounts and applied solely to the delivery of the programs for which they were collected.
The institution maintains written financial policies governing revenue management, expense authorization, budget development and approval, and financial reporting. These policies are reviewed annually and updated as the institution grows in size and complexity.
As part of our commitment to future accreditation readiness, I AM University is developing annual financial reporting practices consistent with the standards required by accrediting agencies, including audited financial statements as the institution grows to the scale where such audits are required.
Refund and Consumer Protection
I AM University maintains a clear, published tuition refund policy that provides students with a transparent account of their rights in the event of course withdrawal or program cancellation. This policy is provided to all students prior to enrollment and is available on our consumer disclosures page.
Our financial aid and payment policies are designed to protect students from undue financial burden. We do not offer Title IV federal financial aid at this time, consistent with our non-accredited status, and we are transparent with all prospective students about the limitations and implications of this status.

Accreditation Readiness
Building governance infrastructure that reflects the institution we intend to become.
Building for the Future

We are not building minimally compliant governance — we are building governance infrastructure that reflects the kind of institution we intend to become.
